A professor of Political Institutions, Governance and Public Policy, Remi Aiyede has attributed the desperation of politicians to the loopholes in Nigeria’s electoral system.
Professor Aiyede who was reacting to the process and outcome of Saturday’s off-cycle elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa state on the Crest breakfast show yesterday said until the electoral system is reformed and major issues are addressed, Nigeria will continue to have inconclusive elections.
He also faulted the electoral umpire, INEC for rushing to announce election results despite glitches and reruns of elections in some areas.
The professor wants electoral offenders to be punished if the nation’s democracy must compete with its peers around the world.
