A University Don, Dr Gbenga Abimbola says what Nigeria need is not more Universities but sincere improvement and solid fortification of the existing higher institutions of learning.

Abimbola made this known while speaking on the proliferation of universities in Nigeria, on Crest FM’s Programme, The Crest Breakfast Show.

He noted that though Nigeria has less number higher institutions compared to the number of prospective students seeking admissions, the existing universities are not properly funded and endowed with enough facilities and manpower that would enhance learning and build up a better students for a better nation.

The mass communication lecturer also decried the overrated pressure that has been placed on University certificates which has culminated in the relegation of other higher institutions, especially specialized higher institutions of learning.

Nigeria currently has 217 universities with a literacy level of 59.6% as several politicians continue to mull the idea of adding more universities to the existing ones with their constituencies standing as host communities.
