A former speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Bakita Bello says it is against democratic principles for the legislative house to be controlled by the governor of the state.

Bello, while speaking on the Crest breakfast show yesterday, also advocated for independence of the three arms of government for effectiveness.

He alleged that personal interests of some governors have in times past led to having the legislature as a rubber-stamp in many states of the federation.

Also, a former deputy speaker Ondo state house of assembly, Honourable Iroju Ogundeji opined that financial autonomy should be implemented for the three arms of government, to maintain checks and balances.

He called on the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) to ensure the state judiciary and legislature are independent as codified in the constitution.
