An Energy expert, Mr Ademola Adigun has called on the Federal Government to really work on the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to make it more transparent and equally profitable.
Adigun gave the charge while speaking on an audit report of missing barrels of crude oil and non remittance of same by NNPC and its affiliate companies on the Crest Breakfast Show.
He noted that prior to reports that the NNPC had declared profits for the first time in 2019, it was just a fraction of the sector that tried to break even as the corporation still has issues that can make its thorough accountability a tough call.
On the Issue of gas flaring and subsequent wastage, the energy guru urged federal government to find a way to capture this gas, which he said is unique to Nigeria, in either liquified or any other forms and try to use it through any other means that would further improve the country’s revenue.
It would be recalled that the audit report of the Auditor General of the Federation has revealed that 107.2 million barrels of crude lifted for domestic consumption in 2019 were unaccounted for by Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
