The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has cleared the air on its demands from the Federal Government that has made its recent protracted strike spiral into 59 days.

The clarification was made by the Chairman of ASUU FUTA Chapter, Professor Olayinka Awopetu, while speaking on the Federal Government’s submission that it cannot meet ASUU’s demands, on Crest Fm’s Programme The Crest Breakfast Show.

According to him, all the union has always demanded and will always demand is nothing short of the welfare of its workers and students for overall and optimum performance.

Awopetu also cleared the air on the reported 200 billion naira been demanded by ASUU with emphasis that the money is not to be gulped by ASUU but should be set aside by the Federal Government for the revamping of Nigerian Universities.

It would be recalled that ASUU had after a review of its commitment between the Federal and the Union in March proceeded on what was reported to be a warning strike but was revealed by Professor Awopetu as a roll-over strike
