A Consulting Engineer and former commissioner for works in Ondo state, Engr Gboye Adegbenro, says corruption has continued to play major roles in frustrating or ruining the provision and maintenance of infrastructure in the country over the years.

Engr Adegbenro who spoke on the State of the Nation on Crest Breakfast Show today, said the corrupt practices were carried out by individuals, but on most occasions, executed by an elaborate and sinister syndicate that included contractors, architects, and other players in the built industry.

The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in the Ondo 2020 Governorship Election upheld the view that developing a culture of maintenance of existing infrastructure was vital.

According to him, without a maintenance culture, the Nation’s infrastructure would fall into a state of disrepair and eventually hinder the pace of social and economic development.

Adegbenro added that without roads, railways, bridges, ports, airports, schools, hospitals, housing, offices, telecommunications, and other infrastructure, it will be difficult to see how economic transformation and enhancement of the quality of life of Nigerian citizens can be realized.
